Regulated industries face a fundamental barrier. Organizations need to collaborate on sensitive data but cannot expose it. A hospital in France can’t share patient records with a research institute in Germany without violating GDPR. A cardiologist can’t access out-of-network records without risking HIPAA violations. Government regulations mandate patient data cannot be shared across entities, and for good reason. But with data regulations come significant downsides. The data stays siloed, insights stay locked, the potential for medical advancements remains wholly untapped. This problem is about to get worse. AI agents will soon coordinate access to datasets on behalf of humans. They will move at machine speed across the same boundaries that trap human collaboration today.
Data protection is a pressing need in regulated jurisdictions such as Europe’s medical industry, which is exactly why we’ve built secure data collaboration as an integral part of our Masked Compute stack.
Secure data collaboration enables agentic science to be conducted safely and privately. It maintains data residency and sovereignty while gathering insights across organizational borders. OpenMatter supports data collaboration between humans, agents, or any combination of both.
Secure data collaboration uses verifiable post-quantum cryptography to protect data throughout the computation lifecycle. Data is encrypted and sharded before analysis. No participant accesses plaintext records.
The interface platform, called Datavizor, creates a secure collaborative session for up to 5 other users to perform analysis in a privacy-preserving way. The interface is familiar, similar to cloud deployment consoles, offering a simplified dashboard experience that anyone can use. A developer API will be offered as well in the near future.
Masked Compute unlocks critical capabilities for agentic science to be conducted safely and privately across regulated jurisdictions. But use cases go far beyond the realm of science. Next week we’ll cover private collaborative RAG. Specifically, how venture capital firms are building RAG databases for agentic workloads, and sharing deal flow insights across organizations without exposing raw portfolio data or internal records. Same cryptographic guarantees. Zero plaintext exposure.
